About the Show
Everyone has a secret...and Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) has dedicated her life to protecting and defending the public images of the nation's elite and keeping those secrets under wraps. Revered and feared at the same time, Olivia, a former communications director to the President of the United States, left the White House to open her own prominent crisis management firm. She is hoping to start a new chapter in her life - both professionally and personally - but she can't seem to completely cut ties with her past. Slowly it becomes apparent that her dysfunctional staff, who specialize in fixing other people's lives, can't quite fix the ones closest at hand-their own.

Olivia's accomplished staff, who would follow her anywhere and do whatever it takes to save someone's reputation, include Harrison Wright (Columbus Short), a slick litigator; Huck (Guillermo Diaz), hacker extraordinaire; investigator Abby Whelan (Darby Stanchfield), don't let that smile and red hair fool you, she's as sharp as they come; and Quinn Perkins (Katie Lowes), the new young woman in the office who is in awe of Olivia, but is initiated in a trial by fire on her very first day on the job.

As Olivia Pope and Associates fights for the reputation and sometimes lives of their clients. Olivia's former boss, President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn), the First Lady Millicent Grant (Bellamy Young), the President's Chief of Staff, Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry), and the Assistant State Attorney David Rosen (Joshua Malina), - District of Columbia U.S. Attorney (at the end of Season 2) - are never far from her beat. Her clients aren't the only ones with secrets, though; surprisingly, she may need to exercise all her damage control skills on her own behalf.

The creator and executive producers of Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice delve into the behind-the-scenes machinations of a mesmerizing top crisis manager in ABC's highly riveting new into its third season, Scandal.

Kazu Kibuishi Presentation and Signing Event

August 28, 2013 was a night filled with events! One such event was being held at the Barnes & Noble at The Grove! Kazu Kibuishi, illustrator and graphic novel author, was on hand to do a presentation and signing for fans at this particular Barnes & Noble. It definitely was an exciting night!

As soon as I purchased my Harry Potter box set and got our wristbands, we went straight to the event area to sit down since we still had a few hours to kill before the event with Kazu Kibuishi. While Mariah did her homework, I made my rounds taking pictures with my camera, and also with my phone so I can post it on my social networks! As I made my way down to the first floor, I glanced over and saw Kazu Kibuishi and family talking with events manager, Lita Weissman! Of course, I didn't want to interrupt their discussion about the night's event, so I went about taking photos! I then made my way back up to the third floor to the events area, and, guess who I saw making their way there, too! Yup! Kazu was also headed for the events area with Lita! He wanted to get an idea of what the area looked like, so he can set up to do a demonstration. I had a chance to meet Kazu and his family! Awesome moment!

The Amulet series
As the minutes ticked away, more fans trickled into the events area. At first, the fans that arrived were mostly Harry Potter fans; however, as time got closer to the event, the events area filled up quickly, especially with young children whom were fans of Kazu because of his graphic novels, such as: the Amulet series and the Daisy Kutter series. Wow! The area filled up was an amazing turn out!
Kazu Kibuishi
Kazu Kibuishi & Jeff Caffoe, production assistant
The event then started with Kazu Kibuishi speaking about how he started, especially since he doesn't think he's a very good artist. It was very interesting how he got into this accident...haha!!! It was very interesting to learn about his background, especially how he started off in the film industry. So, he definitely had an interesting career background from film to comics. Kazu also elaborated on his graphic novel series, The Amulet series, and its history.

Kazu Kibuishi also discussed many of his works and his inspirations for his art. It definitely was storytelling time as Kazu walked the audience through a brief description of his career history. We even got a look at his studio apartment (pre-marriage) and his production office where all his illustration magic happens. He then discussed his assignment to design the covers for the Harry Potter books for its 15th Anniversary. With the help of Jeff Caffoe, his lead production assistant, Kazu demonstrated to the audience how he begins to draw and answer audience questions while at it.  At some point, Kazu had to put the microphone down so that he could draw...haha!

Kazu's workplace
It was amazing to watch Kazu draw! He started off with just miscellaneous scribbles and shapes, and it turned into something it was amazing. I was blown away at what he was drawing! He drew a few shapes and shades...and, poof, it was a view of mountains and hills. Even without too many details, Kazu drew out a breathtaking view.

At some point during the presentation, Lita, had to end the discussion after a couple more questions, then the signing had to get underway. And, since it was a school night, Lita allowed the many children that attended get ahead in the line due to the late time of the evening. The audience was all too willing to accommodate the children. I, of course, completely relate since my daughter, as well, has school the next day; and, we still had a 2+ hour drive to get home after the event. Moreover, this exciting evening was well worth the drive out, especially for my daughter since she's into art and drawing. Kazu is an amazing inspiration for any aspiring artist.
The signing begins!

COVER REVEAL: Four Years Later by Monica Murphy

That is all I ever feel when I think about my mom. Now she's back in my live, always wanting something. Having her around makes it so easy for me to fall into those bad habits that get me into trouble. Skipping class, smoking weed, fooling around with girls that mean nothing to me...I'm messing up. The last thing I need is my sister on my case.

So I keep my mom's return a secret. But promising I'll get my grades back up on my own isn't enough. Fable makes me see a tutor. And Chelsea is the smartest girl I've ever met. She's definitely not my type but there's something about her that I'm drawn to. She's sweet, she's shy and she seems completely immune to my usual moves.

Chelsea has her own secrets and she's not talking. Like I have any room to judge. How can I get her to open up to me? And will I ever be able to convince her that what we have could be something real?

Four Years Later will be available February 25, 2014

JASMINE's THOUGHTS on Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

The Story
Tessa Gray should be happy - aren't all brides happy? Yet as she prepares for her wedding to Jem Carstairs, a net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute. A new demon appears, one liked by blood and secrecy to the Magister, the man who plans to use his army of pitiless automatons, the Infernal Devices, to destroy the Shadowhunters. He needs only one last item to complete his plan of destruction.

He needs Tessa.

Tessa knows Axel Mortmain, the Magister, is coming for her, but not where or when he will strike. Charlotte Branwell, the head of the London Institute, is desperate to find Mortmain first. And the boys who lay equal claim to Tessa's heart, Jem and Will, will do anything to save her. For though Tessa and Jem are now engaged, and Will knows he should force himself to find someone else to care for, he is as much in love with her as ever.

In the last words of a dying Shadowhunter reside the clue that might lead Tessa and her friends to Mortmain. But the Shadowhunters of the London Institute cannot stand alone, and in their homeland of Idris, the ruling body of the Clave doubt their claims that Mortmain is coming. Deserted by those who should be their allies and with their enemies closing in, the Shadowhunters find themselves trapped when Mortmain seizes the medicine which is all that is keeping Jem alive. With his best friend at death's door it is up to Will to risk everything to save the woman they both love.

To buy Will time, the warlock Magnus Bane joins with Henry Branwell to create a device that could help them to defeat the Magister. As those who love Tessa work to save her, and the future of the Shadowhunters that resides with her, Tessa realizes that the only person who can save her is herself - for in the discovery of her own true nature, Tessa begins to learn that she is more powerful than she ever dreamed possible. But can a single girl, even one who can command the power of angels, face down an entire army?

Danger and betrayal, secrets and enchantment, and the tangled threads of love and loss intertwine as the Shadowhunters are pushed to the very brink of destruction in the breathtaking conclusion to the Infernal Devices trilogy.

My Thoughts
Yes! I have finally read the conclusion to The Infernal Devices trilogy! Being a Mom and a blogger is very busy and exhausting...haha! Anyways, I finally got to reading Book 3 of The Infernal Devices, Clockwork Princess; and I have to say, this had a lot of suspense, drama, action and, even , romance. Cassandra Clare has written another book series that will leave any reader breathless for more. When I read each book, I had a difficult time putting it down for, with each turn of the page, I was hungry for more...With every twist and turn of the story, I caught myself about suspense!

The mystery of Tessa Gray's origin still eluded us through the entire trilogy until the end! And...I just was like "WOW!" The twist in each of the characters', not just Tessa, was magnificently well written. Cassandra Clare's characters are well written to the minute details such as each unique mannerisms and characteristics which them unique and easy to fall in love with. I love the wittiness of each of the characters as they interact throughout the story. Moreover, in this conclusion of The Infernal Devices, many secrets were revealed and many other revelations also came to light.

I also enjoyed how Cassandra Clare concluded this trilogy by having the story "come full circle." No matter how many obstacles these characters had to overcome, love still made its way back. With that, I just have to say that this conclusion definitely made me cry. Throughout the book, it had it's moments, but there is the final moment that REALLY "tugged" at my heart.

What more can I say, without spoiling the read for anyone else who hasn't read the book!?!

Well, being one that have read Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments series and, now, The Infernal Devices trilogy, she has created a world of light and dark filled with suspense, drama and intrigue...all intertwined within each of the character's histories; and, in turn, links them to each other.

Although these books are categorized under YA lit, I have found that novels like these would also appeal to the adult reader who favors like genres.

All in all, Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunter world is filled with action, intrigue, suspense, drama...and, even, love which spans generations. This is a world that I have enjoyed losing myself in.

My thoughts
First off, we have to remember that this is an adaptation/interpretation of the book, so changes will be expected. Like any novel to film adaptations, it never is EXACTLY like the book. It can be frustrating when a film adaptation is completely nothing like the book; but, yet, claims that it is based on the book!  So, I would suggest to fans of the book series to watch the movie with an open mind...and remember it's an interpretation of the story.

After the excitement at the fan barricade, Mariah and I made a mad dash into the theater, grabbed some free drinks and popcorn and settled into our seats...just minutes before the movie started. Yes! We were able to watch the movie at the premiere after winning a couple of tickets from Fangirlish. I was somewhat "holding my breath" as the movie started since I have been disappointed before with bad novel to film adaptations. I didn't want to have too high of an expectation for this film, so that I wouldn't come crumbling down with disappointment after watching it. I also refrained from watching too many trailers, clips and featurettes, because I wanted to maintain that element of surprise and awe for when I actually watched the entire film. However, I did watch the five-minute clip that was released just days before...with that, I got even more excited.

As the movie started, it was as if I was opening the book. Although there were changes, it worked! In different parts of the movie, I could "see" what part of the book it was, but, of course, with some changes. Despite the changes, the entire film worked! The story flowed and connected. The characters were well established throughout the film as we watched each character develop from beginning to end. I also noticed that there was a balance among the characters as they grew throughout the film. The characters were well developed. Considering the changes and the entire film overall, I enjoyed the film immensely! I absolutely loved it! This film captured the "feels" that I felt when I read the book! In essence, the film captured the "heart" of the book, and told the story beautifully.

Harald Zwart, the director, did an AMAZING job at bringing the characters to life with cast they had chosen. I loved that fact that he would constantly seek Cassandra Clare's advice/opinion...whatever it was, Harald kept Cassandra close during filming. How awesome was that! Just have to love him and the crew to death for putting all their heart and efforts in making the film and staying true to the book. Have to admire the guy for reading the book and becoming a fan himself...haha! Gotta love it!

As for Jessica Postigo Paquette, she did a wonderful job writing a screenplay that maintained the essence of the Shadowhunter world that Cassandra Clare created in her novels. Just by watching the movie, it was apparently clear that Jessica didn't just write a screenplay; she read the book thoroughly then wrote the screenplay. She took great care to maintain the heart of the story and characters. I absolutely love her for putting all her heart into writing the screenplay, and maintaining the essence of each character.

In regards to the cast, I believe that each actor and actress embodied each character perfectly. Everyone will always have their own image of what each character looks like...they are not going to please everyone's imagination. But, for me, each cast member played their parts the point that Lily Collins is Clary, Jamie Campbell Bower is Jace, Jemima West is Isabelle Lightwood, Kevin Zegers is Alec Lightwood, Robert Sheehan is Simon on and so forth for every cast member. It's true that some of the cast is not what individual fans imagined, but this cast works! I loved the cast!

Overall, we loved the movie! We couldn't stop gushing about it! This is one of the best novel to film adaptations I have watched! This is definitely a movie that everyone will enjoy! It is definitely an action-filled movie with a little teen romance. But, it definitely maintained the balance of suspense, thrills, drama, action and romance that we are familiar with in the book.

Let's put it this way, my daughter loved and enjoyed the movie so much so that she didn't want to leave the theater!! We can definitely watch this movie over and over again....hahaha!!
