The Kiss
I search her face in the sickly moonlight. We’re two figures standing in the darkness, waiting for death and separation. Yet I can’t sacrifice Meimi’s mind. Suddenly, an idea appears. Unfortunately, this plan means sharing my sentient with Meimi, which might tip off my father that one of his sons really has a transcendent. After all, just sharing thoughts with Meimi alerted Doc Zykin, and my father is far more powerful than that snake oil salesman.
But I simply must save Meimi.
Even if it does bring me one step closer to patricide.
Reaching forward, I cup Meimi’s face in my hands. “Then let me help you in another way. Can you trust in that?”
“Yes, Thorne.” Meimi’s voice comes out rough and low. “I trust you.”
Closing my eyes, I summon my vision sentient to the fore. Their power skitters across my skin, like cool mist on a searing hot day. For my plan to work, I must take my true form. So that’s exactly what I do. When I open my eyes once again, I find Meimi staring at me, honest and unafraid.
“You’re blue,” she says simply.
“Yes.”
“You really, really are an alien.”
I smile. “And you’re not frightened of me.”
“I should be.” Meimi’s voice is a husky whisper while her gaze stays locked on my mouth.

“Never be frightened of me, Rosa Meimifloria Archer, my glorious girl named after the drift rose.” I lean in closer, stopping when my warm breath fans across her sweet lips. “I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you safe. And for me, my people, a kiss can connect our consciousness in special ways.” I gently move my mouth across hers.

**About the Author**
Christina Bauer thinks that fantasy books are like bacon: they just make life better. All of which is why she writes romance novels that feature demons, dragons, wizards, witches, elves, elementals, and a bunch of random stuff that she brainstorms while riding the Boston T. Oh, and she includes lots of humor and kick-ass chicks, too.

Christina graduated from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School with BA’s in English along with Television, Radio, and Film Production. She lives in Newton, MA with her husband, son, and semi-insane golden retriever, Ruby.
