Mom stares out the window above the kitchen sink, her coffee cup held midway to her gaped mouth. Mathias shuffles behind me to the coffee pot as I join her to see what she is looking at.
Outside, my sister dances through the garden. Her hips twerk shaking her backside as she shimmies from bloom to bloom. A loud off beat tune carries through the pane of glass while she caresses the leaves of each plant. The messy knot on top of her head wobbles from side to side when she gallops between each and twirls.
Mathias’s heat warms my back, his free hand gripping my hip. “What is she doing?”
“Maybe Gloria Estefan was right and the rhythm will get you?” Mom offers, giggling.
“Not funny, Mom,” I reply but can’t help laughing.
