Episode 3: "Tape 2, Side A"

Jealousy and gossip take a toll on Hannah's relationships. As Alex struggles with feelings of regret, the guys pressure Clay into getting drunk.

My Thoughts

Note: This review contains spoilers

Some of my friends express displeasure about how 13 Reasons Why is too slow. I say, “Make me feel it.” I think the pace in which Clay is listening to the tapes and how the story is progressing is just fine. He’s a shy, maybe awkward, kid in one of the most confusing times of his life. He’s just trying to make sense of things and why they are happening.

This episode struck me as particularly intense. As the description says, Clay is pressured into getting drunk but we are also listening to Alex Standall’s tape. As an audience member, we see “the guys” side and reactions to Hannah’s suicide. Justin Foley, Jessica Davis, and Alex Standall, each on Hannah’s tapes are acting like Hannahs tapes are a conspiracy. Miles Heizer as Alex Standall is torn, guilty, and not at all confused. He plays Alex’s part in Hannah’s death impactfully with his tears and a stressful demeanor. Miles seems to play his character as the mature type but not to Clay’s extent.

“Clay…! My precious cinnamon roll. I’m concerned about your health…!” With the way the plot is progressing, I’m starting to worry about Clay’s mental state. I do know what’s going to happen, but I can’t help but wonder how Dylan Minnette will keep portraying Clay as he progresses further into Hannah’s tapes.

JASMINE's THOUGHT on Fear the Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 3 - "Ouroboros"

AMC's Fear the Walking Dead returns at sea, aboard the Abigail. The group is unaware of the true breadth of the apocalypse; they assume there still a chance that some city, state, or nation might be unaffected, some place where infection has not hit. Abandoning land, Madison, Travis and Daniel gather their grieving families for ports unknown. But the respite of Strand's ocean-side home is short-lived. *My Thoughts*

Nice! This third episode connected that web series, Flight 462, into the series! I mean seriously, there had to be a connection somewhere since it is in the same The Walking Dead universe...haha! However, we did get a little bit of a tease to this connection in Season 1 when Nick saw a "plane" fly by. We then see where the plane crashed in this second season.

The episode opens with the survivors of the plane crash. It is apparent that the Abigail is sailing in the vicinity of it when one of the survivors get caught up in its filtration system causing Abigail to stop. They notice remnants from the crash on shore and decide to scavenge for supplies. While the kids rummage through the wreckage, Madison questions Strand about this mysterious location.

While Travis works on fixing the boat, Madison and Strand discusses their trust issues. Well, things do have to change when they are all in the "same boat"...per se...haha! Pun intended. Even the children is "stepping up" in this new situation they are in. Nice surprise to see Nick has grown since the first season. These young adults had to grow up fast considering the circumstances. Then there is Salazar having his reason for accompanying the them to shore. He seems to have opened up a bit to Madison, but he does have some serious trust issues...hmmm. What's his back story... Although Ofelia keeps to herself, Nick befriends her.

Chris wanders off and finds a part of the plane as he searches for supplies. What he finds will affect him in more ways than one. Well, he ends up somewhat in the same situation his father was in with Liza when he finds a dying survivor. It's completely different "killing" a dead person. He had to kill a dying man. Now, that will mess with you in the head.

Now, where are all the bodies of all those passengers from the plane?!? We soon find out when a survivor comes out running towards them. Plus, Nick runs into a couple himself. This is definitely not a "good" situation. Two survivors go back with them to the Abigail to Strand's dismay. He is not happy about it. Travis and Madison comes to a compromise...again, to Strand's dismay. Who is he!?! It is apparent that there's more to him than he's letting on. It is also obvious that he puts up with the group...for a reason. Strand does what Strand does well... He let go of the two plane crash survivors.

This journey continues to be mysterious, yet this will not be the last encounter they will come across on the water.

Episode 3: "The Deliverer"

Synopsis:

Damien consults John Lyons, an old friend, about Rutledge's intentions, while Simone turns to the Church for answers. Shay comes face to face with an unexpected visitor. After a mysterious death, Rutledge gains Damien's trust.

*My Thoughts*

Damien's memory and story continue to unravel before him as he investigates his past and destiny as the Antichrist. He struggles between his own good nature to help people and the ongoing deaths that surround him.

Not only is Damien being pulled into his title as the Antichrist, others such as Kelly’s sister and Detective James Shay (David Meunier) begin to investigate Damien and this crazy, apocalyptic destiny. Will all these people die in order for Damien to fulfill his role? They might survive and serve as emissaries of God, but it’s not certain until we hit that episode. The reoccurring character of Ann pursues protective watch over Damien and reveals to us she’s been watching since he was a child. Her obsession is stalker-like and she refuses to hand over this responsibility to anyone else, going as far to make Damien feel like this new person is a threat therefore causing their inevitable death.

Damien must try to understand himself, this destiny, and try not to get innocent people killed along the way. Unbeknownst to him, he has his own emissaries (the Rottweilers, Ann, demonic intervention) killing for him and without his need for his intent, whether it be determination or a little curiosity.

However, this episode seemed to focus more on Ann and her obsession with Damien. A few minutes into the episode we find her home littered with his photography and her basement shrine containing various items from his childhood. Noticeably, we see Damien’s old tricycle from The Omen scene when he unintentionally pushed his mother of a step stool, his first camera, school uniform, etc. It seems more than obvious that she is just one of his followers. Later on in the episode, Ann reveals her own 666 mark on her leg. Is this a requirement for all of Damien’s followers or does Ann have a special role in his destiny as the Antichrist?

The characters continue to delve deeper into Damien’s story. We see death and blood, all for Damien to walk down the path decided for him. He didn’t want this or at least he hasn’t decided on this path yet. It’s too much for anyone to take in and there wouldn’t be anyone to talk to. Should he continue to be the human he was raised as or accept his title as the Antichrist, False Messiah?

*My Thoughts*

Seems that Lucifer is enjoying his time in Los Angeles...enjoying all his heart's desires. He continues to be fascinated with the every day and average "goings on" that humans enjoy. However, it looks like Lucifer is now a victim of identity theft...haha! In addition to that dilemma, Lucifer is thrust into a murder investigation in which he feels compelled to find justice for the victim. Hmmm...the Devil is helping the innocent. Strange as it seems for this Fallen Angel, Lucifer wants to punish the guilty...haha! But, the end result is justice. Somewhat contradictory for the Lord of Hell...don't ya think?!?

Lucifer is definitely fighting an internal conflict between his fascination with humans and his Devilish nature. His wit and charm suits him whenever he pleases, but he seems to restrain himself when dealing out punishment. Hmmm...Lucifer seems to be more human than he is willing to admit. However, for being the Devil, I'm not seeing much of it. Granted, that he is enjoying his time of retirement/vacation from Hell, but he IS still the Devil. Other than his knack for bring out people's deepest, darkest desires, we saw another, yet very few, side of the Devil dishing out punishment. It seems that Lucifer is turning human...all too quickly.

This lack of seeing the Devil in all his "power" is somewhat disappointing. I see the conflict he has, especially when he seeks "therapy" with Dr. Martin. She is saying some truths about Lucifer even he doesn't want to admit to. I want to see more of the mystical/paranormal side of Lucifer...being a Fallen Angel and such. Since Hell has been left unattended since Lucifer left, we haven't seen much of the repercussions of his absence...yet. Hopefully, we will see it soon. There's a lot of focus on Lucifer's "enjoyment" in Los Angeles, but there's also a lack of the "other" side of it as well.

JASMINE's THOUGHTS on Supergirl Season 1 Episode 3 "Fight or Flight"

About the Show

Supergirl is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El, Superman's (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities, and be the hero she was always meant to be.

Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents' help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex, and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret. 

Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant. She works alongside her friend and IT technician Winn Schott and famous photgrapher James Olsen, who Grant just hired away from the Daily Planet to serve as her new art director. However, Kara's days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw, head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats. Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime.

Episode 3 - "Fight or Flight"

Synopsis:

Supergirl's powers are tested when Reactron, one of Superman's formidable enemies, arrives in National City and targets the young hero. Also, Cat plans to run an on exposé Supergirl.

My Thoughts

Note: This review contains NO spoilers

Well... We continue to love this show! Now into the third episode, Kara continues to establish herself as Supergirl, all the while figuring out what that means to everyone and herself. Of course, the dangers and villains continue to come out causing quite a bit of chaos. Kara soon learns that danger is not all alien-related, but that doesn't stop Supergirl from "saving the day."

What I like about this show is that Supergirl is not just a hero, she also is a person with heart. But, yet, she also wants to be her own hero, not Superman's cousin. In each episode, we witness Kara's growth in becoming Supergirl... even when Superman makes his brief appearance. But, hey, what about that hint of romance that may or may not be present and developing. Hmmm...

So far, each episode starts off where the previous episode ended...keeping a cohesive and steady flow in the unraveling of Supergirl's story from the beginning.

I don't know... I guess I just can't help but gush over this new series. I really enjoy that Kara/Supergirl is such a down-to-earth person...be it human or alien... She is a superhero with a big heart. I look forward to seeing this character develop even more into becoming a great superhero on her own volition.

JASMINE's THOUGHTS on Constantine Season 1 Episode 3 "The Devil's Vinyl"

Based on the wildly popular comic book series Hellblazer from DC Comics, seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine (Matt Ryan, "Criminal Minds") is armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and a wickedly naughty wit. He fights the good fight - or at least he did. With his soul already damned to hell, he's decided to abandon his campaign against evil until a series of events thrusts him back into the fray, and he'll do whatever it takes to protect the innocent. *My Thoughts*

Into the third episode and it is still full of surprises. Constantine is on another case in Chicago, this time, as they follow the map Liv left behind. The horror/mystery element still is ever present in keeping me interested. Still being the start of a new series, we are still being introduced to this supernatural world where Constantine continues to investigate these "odd" happenings while saving others from the "darkness".

In this episode, a cursed object/artifact is in question, and Constantine is in a race to find it before it takes more souls. Of course, Zed shows up to "learn the ropes" since she is gifted, and she wants to learn about her ability. Not only that, we are introduced to Constantine's "frenemy" Papa Midnite portrayed by Michael James Shaw. We already got the impression that Constantine knows many people, good and bad...even demonic and angelic, since he is deeply involved in this "world".  It's apparent that Papa Midnite is up to something...which won't bode well for Constantine.

With the mention of "The First of the Fallen," it just adds to the demonic backdrop of this "darkness" that is spreading that was mentioned in Episode 2. I'm already intrigued with the mystery, this episode just added to the intrigue. 

I just love how Matt Ryan brings this character to life and so animated as well, which I found was hilarious in the scene that Constantine is covered in blood, naked working on a "spell". Matt Ryan continues the wit, sarcasm, and humor of his character. However, the show seems to be taking its time in introducing all the aspects of who and what Constantine is all about, including all the "players". I think we need it to pick up a bit more. I would have liked to see more of Chas and Zed in the forefront, and not the background. They have their stories to tell, too, in regards with their relationship/association with Constantine. It has already been established that they are constant companions of Constantine...that we need to see more of as well.

I definitely want to see more!
