I ran my fingers down her pink cheek, but was quickly distracted by some commotion near the entrance. After spotting a guy in a ski mask, an icy chill coasted down my back. From a distance, it looked like one of Cassidy’s friends. I expected him to march over to me, but it became clear it was just a couple guys horsing around. They made their way toward the kiosk to grab some coffee. As they did, the guy I initially saw pulled off his mask before slapping his buddy on the back.
Bri cleared her throat to grab my attention. Her gaze was inquisitive as she stared at me, so I did exactly what she did to me when I tried to read her and took another long sip of coffee.
“Do you want to crash at my apartment or go back to yours?” I asked, setting down my cup and ignoring the way my skin continued to crawl.
Bri eyed me with caution. “It doesn’t matter to me. Yours would probably be better. The girls still aren’t the biggest fan of you and think I’m insane for believing things will actually be different.”
I scowled. “We’ll go back to mine.”
“It’s going to take a while for everyone to come around. Kylie and Peyton aren’t the only ones who’ve weighed in on us,” Bri murmured, twisting her hands together.
“Yeah, I’ve gotten an earful from Micah, Shane, and Mia. After what happened last Friday, I think Jackson is laying low with everyone, but when he does resurface, I’m sure he’ll toss in his two cents,” I grumbled, keeping my eyes on the granite flecks in the table.
She tilted my chin up. “They can say what they want, it’s not going to make a difference to me. I’m not going to let anyone get in the way of us being together. I know you won’t either.”
As I stared at her flawless face, the piercing pain in my heart faded some. Her eyes searched mine and tranquil waves flowed through me. I rested my hand over hers, savoring the way she could chase away any awry feeling within me. Somehow over the years, she’d gotten even more beautiful, but that wasn’t what drew me to her the most. The kindness in her soul still left me in awe every day. I could live for a thousand years and never measure up to it.
Bursts of desire swept through me, and I brushed my lips across hers. Apparently, it was far too brief for her. She grasped the back of my neck and intertwined her tongue with mine. I returned the kiss with just as much fervor. After exploring every aspect of my mouth and lingering around my tongue ring, she released a heady moan.
A few people groaned as they walked past us, so I reluctantly pulled away. Bri sucked in a few breaths before raising her eyebrows. I shook my head to regain my wits. It was still far too easy for me to get distracted by her amazing mouth and body.
“I’ve been meaning to ask you, what led to Peyton beating the crap out of Jackson? She never lets guys get to her, so it was odd to have that be the catalyst to you being in cuffs. I mean, I’m all for you in handcuffs, but not under those circumstances,” I said with a sinful grin.
