Hope springs eternal for everyone except Bella Kynaston. She survived the rape, but the aftermath is a whole other story. She struggles to figure out who she really is as more truths are revealed about her heritage. With no real anchor, sometimes ending it all seems like the only way out.
David has loved Bella for three years. Too bad he feels as if he no longer deserves a chance with her. Much to his surprise that’s exactly what he gets, but she’s far more damaged than he ever imagined. Still, he’ll do anything to help her even if it means losing himself in the process. Any transgression can be forgiven. Or so he thinks.
Will Bella find the peace she so desperately seeks if the pain permanently ended? Is there someone who can get to her in time? Or will the damage she’s suffered prove too much to bear?

*Excerpt*
David stalked back toward the school. If he was lucky, that jackass hadn’t left yet. Bella had stopped them from fighting before, but after the picture he’d had the displeasure of seeing, it was time he finished what he’d started.
And there was Jeremiah, coming down the walkway. David’s temper flared at the sight of him. The guy had no idea who he was messing with. He needed to understand he was playing with fire. David dropped his backpack and ran at Jeremiah, tackling him to the ground and getting in an elbow as he straddled him.
“Stay the hell away from my girlfriend.”
“Afraid she likes me better?” David’s elbow had busted Jeremiah’s lip and it was already swelling.
The image of that kiss surfaced in his mind, and David threw a punch at Jeremiah’s head, but he moved and David’s fist landed hard on the sidewalk. As Jeremiah scrambled to his feet, David dragged himself up, too, knuckles bleeding, and kneed Bella’s ex in the gut. Jeremiah grunted and threw a right hook which failed miserably as David lunged at him and they crashed to the ground again.
With a satisfying smack, David slapped Jeremiah in the face, busting the guy’s lip open even more. It should have been over, but Jeremiah answered back slamming the base of his palm in to David’s nose. David fell back as blood erupted from his nose. Rage flared in him as he watched Jeremiah jump to his feet. Who the hell was this guy? Jackie Chan? He had to get Jeremiah flat on his ass and quick, so David stepped forward ready to swing a punch.
A pair of hands caught his arm as someone else grabbed Jeremiah. The teachers had finally arrived to pull them apart.
Snorting, David bent over and blew the blood out of his nose. His side was sore too and he was sure to have a bruise blossoming along his ribs from when he took Jeremiah down. He glanced at Jeremiah’s equally bloody face with satisfaction. Well, at least he could claim the other guy had got it worse than he did, he had gotten in more hits.
“Do you two have anything to say for yourself?” Mr. Mattis, the gym teacher, asked.
“No.” He and Jeremiah answered simultaneously.
“Fine. To the principal’s office. Now.”
This hadn’t been David’s first fight this year—and, sadly, both had been about Bella. Why did he burn with so much fury when it came to situations where she was involved? David frowned. Not the kind of thing he wanted to consider about the girl he loved.
