Synopsis:
He was supposed to be a myth.
But from the moment I crossed the River Styx and fell under his dark spell... he was, quite simply, mine.
Society darling Persephone Dimitriou wants nothing to do with her mother's ambitions. She's biding her time until she's able to leave the ultra-modern city of Olympus and start her doctorate degree. The one thing she never planned on? Her mother ambushing her with an engagement to Zeus—a man with more than a few dead wives in his past. Persephone will do anything to escape that fate...even flee the sparkling upper city and make a devil's bargain with a man she once believed was a myth.
Hades has spent his life in the shadows, and he has no intention of stepping into the light. Not even for the woman who flees into his territory as if the very hounds of hell are on her heels.
But when he finds that Persephone can offer a little slice of the revenge he's spent his entire life craving? It's all the excuse he needs to agree to help her—for a price. She'll be his for the summer, and then he'll see her safely out of Olympus and away from her mother and Zeus.
Hades and Persephone's deal might seem simple enough, but they both quickly realize it's anything but. With every breathless night spent with Hades, Persephone wonders at her ability to leave him behind. And Hades? Now that he has a taste for Persephone, he's willing to go to war with Olympus itself to keep her...

***My Thoughts***
Note: This Review contains NO spoilers
Neon Gods is a retelling of the tale of Hades and Persephone but it’s sexy and sweet put together. The storytelling and plot is a hot and heavy romance over a single month. Hades gives Persephone sanctuary after she ran away from her forced engagement with Zeus. The sex scenes are exciting, but it is the relationship outside of the bedroom that made their partnership flourish. Consensual, heavy, heated, but also loving and caring, the “spicy” from spicytok is there but the romance is far better than the horniness. Although they have little time, Persephone and Hades learn more about each other than married couples would learn about each other in five years. The chapters switch perspectives from Persephone and Hades adding depth to their characters. He is brooding and edgy, but she is sunshine and courage in corporeal form. Hades would do anything for Persephone and keep her safe. The more she learns about him, the more she wanted to love and comfort him and vice versa.
My first impression was some blue bloods mixed with Greek mythology, a little boring at first but it grew on me. Following my first impression my thought turned into “The Greek mythology aspect was totally unnecessary. These characters could have easily been renamed and placed into their own world,” but Katee Robert wrote eloquently and seamlessly from start to finish. Neon Gods transported me into the glamorous but shallow city of Olympus and the small but homey feel of the Lower City. It is perfect for anyone who loves the theme of a big scary partner with their little ball of happiness. It also has a sound and happy ending, a little cliché after Hades versus Zeus but it puts the Hades and Persephone story to rest.
Romance isn’t my go-to genre, but I’d like to read Robert's next book in the Dark Olympus series, Electric Idol.
