JASMINE's THOUGHTS on Supergirl Season 1 Episode 2 "Stonger Together"

About the Show
Supergirl is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El, Superman's (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities, and be the hero she was always meant to be.

Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents' help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex, and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret.

Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant. She works alongside her friend and IT technician Winn Schott and famous photgrapher James Olsen, who Grant just hired away from the Daily Planet to serve as her new art director. However, Kara's days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw, head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats. Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime.

Episode 2 - "Stronger Together"
Synopsis:
When Kara's attempts to help National City don't go according to plan, she must put aside the doubts that she - and the city's media - has about her abilities in order to capture an escapee from the Kryptonian prison, Fort Rozz. Also, Cat pressures James to use his connection to Superman to get her an interview with Supergirl.

My Thoughts

Note: This review contains NO spoilers

Can the excitement get any better!?! Anyways...Supergirl's adventures continues as she further explores her abilities. Even the DEO has her going through some vigorous training... All the while, she tries to take on too much too soon which puts a sour taste to the population of National City.

We continue see her story revealed as she embraces her Kryptonian heritage... and more "aliens" are being revealed! Here's the kicker...Supergirl's current nemesis hits close to home. Whoa! I really like how Kara's past (flashbacks) and present are intertwined within the episode which gives us a better understanding how these "alien" criminals are connected to Krypton and Earth to Kara and her family to Earth... Now, that's going to be an adventure on its own.

The world building and character development continues to enliven the plot that I enjoyed watching. We are definitely seeing Kara/Supergirl is growing into her own. Although I like that this show continues to develop Supergirl's story without the need to "fly" beneath Superman's shadow. This is, after all, a show about Supergirl, not Superman's cousin. Melissa Benoist is making this her role...and she is "filling Supergirl's shoes" perfectly. But I would definitely love to see Superman visit National City sometime...they do, after all, make constant references to Superman and Metropolis.

Until the next episode...and the further adventures of Supergirl!
