*Excerpt*
“You expect us to walk in that?” Sierra asked, offering Rob an incredulous glare. Although she hadn’t noticed it when they’d driven through town, distracted as she was by the lights and Christmas decorations displayed everywhere, the streets and sidewalks were covered in ankle-deep slush. Apparently, it had warmed up during the day, just enough to make a mess of the snow that had fallen the previous night.
Rob expected her and Jenn to wade through it to a pizza place down the street for dinner. Even the lure of wood-fired pizza wasn’t enough to make her want to venture forth into the frigid, soupy mush.
“Oh, it’ll be fine, Sierra. Come on. Where’s your spirit of adventure?” Jenn asked, looping one arm around Sierra’s and the other around Rob’s.
Rob possessed the audacity to wink at Jenn before he took a step forward. Hearing the loud growling of his stomach was the only thing that inspired Sierra to continue walking with him and Jenn instead of retreating to the hotel room. She knew Rob was likely starving. If she argued against the plans her friends had made, it would just mean that much longer he’d have to wait to eat. She resigned herself to going along with them.
They’d only made it to the end of the hotel’s property when Sierra concluded they really had entered a parallel universe where everyone had lost their minds. She knew for a fact, thanks to the digital thermometer at the hotel, that it was only twenty-nine degrees outside. Yet people scurried along the sidewalk dressed in shorts like they’d landed in a tropical locale. She couldn’t help gaping at two college-aged girls mincing their way through the slush wearing flip-flops and shivering like they might turn into human popsicles.
“Oh, my word.” Jenn’s grip on Sierra’s arm tightened as they watched two parents, clearly devoid of their good sense, push a stroller across the street while dodging traffic. Icy water splashed all over the baby in the stroller, but the parents either didn’t notice or care. The little one’s upset howls mingled with the chatter of hundreds of people all pushing and shoving their way along the sidewalks and spilling into the street, causing cars to back up as they waited for them to move.
“What have we done?” Sierra muttered, not realizing she spoke aloud until Jenn and Rob both offered her a concerned glance.

Her historical westerns have been described as “reminiscent of the era captured by Bonanza and The Virginian” while her contemporary works have been called “laugh-out-loud funny, and a little heart-pumping sexy without being explicit in any way.”
When this farm girl isn’t writing or indulging in rich, decadent chocolate, Shanna hangs out with her husband, lovingly known as Captain Cavedweller. She also experiments with recipes, snaps photos of her adorable nephew, and caters to the whims of a cranky cat named Drooley.
