Descendants of the Amazons, the Scythians work alongside prominent governments but answer to no one. Warriors living on the fringe of civilization, they live by one credo: Strength through Equality. Power through Knowledge.

Nya Thalestris is the brightest Scythian of her generation. Strong, capable, ruthless, she is sure to earn a spot in the Trials, a time-honored mating ritual responsible for the evolution of her species.

Abducted by their sworn enemy, the Drahzda, Nya is forever altered and spirals out of control. The Society sends in Jax Nickius. Infamous psychologist and one of the most brutal warriors of their kind, he discovers triggers planted in Nya’s mind. As Nya solidifies her spot in the Trials, Jax develops a plan to help—while pursuing her as a mate. But, Nya’s attraction to Jax is at war with her instinct to never let anyone get too close.

During the Trials, Nya’s repressed memories surface, revealing a new enemy—one from inside the consulate walls—and a traitorous alliance on the horizon that could irrevocably change the course of history.

Since before the Bronze Age, the Society has managed to safeguard humanity from itself … until now.

*My Thoughts*

Note: This review contains NO spoilers

This was an interesting action-filled story. Set in modern society, this tells of an elite and advance society that lives apart from the rest of civilization. Apparently, Scythians are descended from Amazons; hence, their physical and intellectual aspects are above ordinary than from Allos (ordinary man.) So, this story takes place during the Scythian trials in which the best female Scythians go through rigorous physical and mental tasks to secure a spot for a mating ritual?!? Huh... 😕 Anyways, The Scythian Trials centers around Nya and her trial. Not only that, she must deal with secrets that are buried in mind. Not only does she have to establish her place in the trials, she must also overcome the mental barriers and/or anxiety that cripples her all the time, especially during the trials. Then there is Jax, who is assigned to counsel her in order for her to deal with her "anxiety" and succeed in the trials. But, there is more than the trials that is happening around Nya. A war seems to be brewing, and Nya seems to be at the center of it.

So, amidst the action-packed competition and the budding romance, the mystery of Nya's memories somehow is linked to the brewing war. War?!? Yup! I would say so, and Nya and her memories is somewhere in the middle of it all. However, I would have liked to know more about the Scythian society other than the "mating" trials. With all that advanced physical traits, intellect, and technology, I would like to have learned more. I thought there could have been more in the world building. I also thought the end somewhat left it open for another book and/or spin-off. What do you think?!?
