*My Thoughts*

Note: This review contains no spoilers

What an engaging and imaginative story! Dead Girl Walking, sort of, reminded me of that television series Dead Like Me. Young Princess Ophelia dies, becomes a grim reaper, and has to help souls move on. Set in the time of the "dark ages," this cute story of a young princess has to learn how to take souls...or else feel the consequences for not following the rules of life, death...and after-death.

Ruth Silver created an interesting and unique world filled with grim reapers...and angels of death..."living" in the world with everyone else, but their job is to maintain the cycle of life and death by "collecting" the souls "marked for death" to help the souls move on. To where...well, that is still not revealed. She has created these young adults...some are not really "young adults" since it seems that grim reapers don't really "die." Well...yah, you're going to have to read it to find out what I mean...haha! I wouldn't want to ruin the "surprise" of it. Ruth has taken these supernatural/paranormal character and made them real in this imagined world of hers, instead of in a "spirit" state. They are literally "living" in the real world with the living...hahaha!! Now, that' a twist! But...it also had it's moments of heart-gripping drama and suspense that can make your heart race! Let's not forget the cliffhanger that Ruth Silver leaves at the end of this adventure that is only the beginning for Leila!

Dead Girl Walking is a fun, yet dark, paranormal romance that is filled with some teen drama and suspense that will keep you turning the pages. I sure did....keep turning the pages, that is. I definitely got caught up in Princess Ophelia/Leila's adventure...and I am definitely wanting to read more on Leila's adventures as a grim reaper!

Synopsis:
The lines we once crossed so easily have widened and torn us apart . . .

Once upon a time I thought Finn and I would live happily ever after, but real life doesn't always have a happy ending. He's testing my trust, and I'm losing faith in the man I thought I'd spend the rest of my life with, and there’s nothing I do can stop it. He’s the one I trusted to keep me safe, but now he’s the source of my greatest pain . . .

Forgiveness is fragile, and some fractures never fully heal . . .

One mistake—a slip in a moment of weakness—might cost me everything I've worked so hard for. The thing about trust is that it's a lot easier to lose than it is to build. Just as I'm about to give up and surrender to the demons from my past, an unexpected threat reminds me what I'm best at: protecting the woman I love. Whether or not she wants me, I will fight for Carrie and our daughter, and I will keep them safe—no matter the cost.

Even if I have to put my life and my heart on the line.

Today, on this second week, I have the awesome pleasure of sharing an excerpt from this upcoming book!

*Excerpt*
I lowered my face even more. “I need you so damn bad. Let me kiss you. Let me make it better. I know how to make it all better.”
I brushed my lips across hers gently, testing her reaction. She kissed me back. So soft I barely felt it, and yet I somehow felt it down to my soul.
With a small groan, I closed my mouth over hers, crushing her against my chest and holding her so tightly I might have broken a rib. Man, I’d been waiting for this moment. For her to stop shutting me out. For her to want me as much as I needed her.
And now it was happening.
I slanted my mouth over hers, taking full control of the kiss. Backing her up against the wall, my tongue glided inside her mouth at the same time I slipped my leg in between hers. She gasped and opened her mouth wider, granting me full access.
Without hesitation, I took it, and then I took some more. Like the greedy asshole I really was. Part of me knew I should stop kissing her until I was better, but the other part of me wanted her too damn badly to give a shit about anything else. When I closed my hands around her hips, my fingers digging into the soft sides of her ass, she broke off the kiss and took a shaky breath.
I latched onto her neck, biting with just enough pressure to sting. It had been too long since I’d had her. Too long since I’d held her. Too long for everything. My injured leg protested against the weight I put on it, but I ignored the cry of protest it gave. Any pain I had to suffer was worth it, as long as Carrie was in my arms again, making those small sounds that drove me fucking insane.

*Excerpt*
“Sweetie, come in here. She is awake.”
My eyes flutter open as I hear a woman speaking to someone else. I open them again then close them repeatedly because the intensity of the lights on my eyes are causing spots. I deliberately open and close them again several times before it gets easier to see.
I look around to see my mother and my dad holding a child. I know they are my parents, but whose child is that? I look around to see machines hooked up to me, and that is when I realize I am in a hospital.
“What happened? Why am I here? Who is that little girl?” My voice is horse.
My dad looks up to my mother. “I will go and get the doctor.” He walks out of the door with the little girl.
I look up at my mother, and she says, “We will discuss that after the doctor sees you.” Leaning down, she hugs me, crying. “I am so happy to see those beautiful green eyes again.”
The doctor comes in the door with my dad in tow and the girl cradled in his arms.
The doctor looks at the machines then turns to me, pulling out a flashlight from his pocket. He looks me in each eye with it blinding me again.
“You are looking good. It’s nice to see you awake. How are you feeling?”
“I’m okay. I think. Can someone tell me what happened?”
The doctor steps back and looks down at me. “You were in a gruesome car wreck. When you first came in, we had our doubts that you would live. Thank goodness you pulled through. I am going to go and let the nurses know you are up and maybe bring you some water?”
“Please, my mouth is really dry, and I am starved. Can I eat?”
Chuckling, the doctor says, “Let’s see how you handle the water first, but I think we may be able to get you something light to eat. Do you remember who you are or your age? Tell me the last few things you remember.”
I try to think back. “I remember being a child of course. I don’t remember how I wound up here. I’m not sure on how old I am either. I’m thinking I’m sixteen, right?” I look up at my parents. “I’m feeling overwhelmed. I know you are my parents and have apparently had a baby.”
He nods his head. “Well, you are actually eighteen, and it looks like you only will have so many memories of the time before. Your parents can show you pictures to jog your memory, but it may never come completely back. Other than that, you look really good, and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of all of this. You still need rest though.”
I nod my head, and he says, “I will be back later. I will let your family explain the details.” He turns on his heel and makes his exit.
