Sometimes the past comes back to haunt you—in the most heartbreakingly beautiful way.

Gavin’s story.

I fell in love hard and fast as lightning. As quick as she came into my world she was gone. Demi said she has secrets—that she’s done horrible things. Who hasn’t? I’m not going to let the past determine our future. Sometimes love lays forever at your feet and sometimes you need to fight for it. Demi is worth every damn battle we’ll have to go through. I’d burn down the world just to keep her safe. And, after what I’ve discovered, I just might have to. All I need with Demi is one more night to convince her we’re worth it. And that one night is going to cost me everything.

*My Thoughts*

Note: This review contains NO spoilers

This is the second book I have read by Addison Moore, and this was an enjoyable read! Although it is the second book in the Beautiful Oblivion series, it can be read as a standalone. Moreover, the characters in this series are all intertwined with each other since the setting of these stories takes place at Lake Loveless. Beautiful Illusions is Gavin's story. Just as it is stated in the synopsis, this is one unique and compelling love story.

Gavin was definitely going to have to "move" mountains to fight for the woman he fell in love with that fateful night of a mistaken encounter. Just like he has his past, Demi also has hers...and then some. I enjoyed their interaction with each other. Despite that they have their secrets, they have a connection with each other and opens up. They are emotional and headstrong. It takes Gavin everything he got to "reach" Demi, but she doesn't make it easy. She also has her demons to face as well. With the tragedy in her life and a painful past, Gavin has his work cut out for him in order to reach Demi's heart. He will go above and beyond to keep her safe...even if it meant his life.

I was completely enthralled with these two characters. Gavin's determination to "save" Demi; and, Demi for her stubborn attitude, even though deep within she is vulnerable and hurting. Told in both Gavin and Demi's point of views, I got to know each of them...of what they are thinking and feeling. These characters have a depth to their personalities that made it impossible to not feel for them. The romance was there, the storyline had its intrigue and twists, and the intimacy was hot and heavy. It kept me turning the pages...with plenty of gasps and sighs...from beginning to end.

The only thing that I can say that's not so good is the "love at first sight" them of it. It is such an all too common theme in contemporary romance...and it does get old. I am all for that "love at first sight" and all the obstacles characters face for their love, but it's just too obvious that way. But then again, that's just me.

Beautiful Illusions is a distinctly compelling story of love and tragedy filled with its own twists that will keep readers guessing to the end. Addison Moore has delivered this wonderful story of how love can overcome the obstacles, no matter how difficult and dangerous it can be.
