In an instant everything changed for seventeen-year-old Cassie Moore. Together she and her time-traveling boyfriend, Trent Astor battle to survive their next impossible challenge. As they navigate through a third parallel world which Cassie begged Trent to create for her, the two soon discover that no world can be made perfect.
And while they fight through their new circumstances, the universe may just have its own agenda for them both.
Meanwhile, it seems Trent and his sister, Lorelai, will never be safe from the greedy world and its hunger for Trent's power. A new force threatens to destroy the anonymity Trent has fought for his entire life unless he can stop this new opposition first. But every choice has a consequence, and Trent is face with the most difficult choice of his life.
Set in contemporary Northern California, The Vortex Series is a teen romance for those who also enjoy a bit of science fiction and fantasy. Told in two perspectives, we get an intimate view of both Cassie and Trent's worlds. Family relationships, how they interconnect and drive our personalities, is the heart and soul of this YA time traveling novel.

Whoa! Janine Caldwell did it...again! In this third and final book in The Vortex Series, Janine took me on another suspenseful adventure through time with Trent and Cassie! Up until now, Cassie and Trent has overcome the problems they were faced with in the first two books! But, now, on this third try at a new life, Cassie and Trent are faced with the same problems as before, but this time, the circumstances and players have changed...a bit.
After begging Trent to go back to her past to change history...again! Trent comes back to another parallel world with Cassie...but there's one surprise that REALLY shocked them...and me! Whoa! Although there were changes to this third timeline, Cassie and Trent were then facing a whole new set of obstacles and problems they had to face...ultimately, together. Call it destiny or fate, Cassie and Trent's lives were meant to be...it didn't matter in which timeline. Like the first two books, Deuce is told in both their points of view, which is fitting since all the changes that happened in each timeline revolves directly with the choices they made.
Janine Caldwell wrote a wonderful story of true love and the obstacles to fit for the one they love. Each of her characters, well written, had strong individual personalities that could not and would not be mistaken with another. With her descriptive and detailed telling of the present and the past as they hopped through time. What I also loved was Janine's focus on the complexities of familial relationships that either change or grow stronger when another is in an intimate relationship. It is an emotional battle within themselves to find the balance between one's family and one's true love....and to be truly accepted.
Deuce is not only a suspenseful science fiction story, it also tells of the love one has with family and friends, and all the conflicts that occur when trying to keep those one loves together. Filled with emotion and heartache, Deuce was one story that I could not stop reading... I had to know if Trent and Cassie won the fight to keep their loved ones and each other together.
